Trust and Estate Attorney
Selzer Gurvitch seeks a Trust and Estate Attorney to join our Trust and Estate practice group. For over 40 years, our firm has provided legal service to clients in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Virginia. This position represents an exciting and unique opportunity for growth within an established and prestigious firm, which is expanding its trust and estate, real estate, lending, business, and transactional law practice.
Qualified candidates have 5-7 years of experience and a strong background in estate planning, trust administration, and probate law, and will be adept at providing comprehensive legal counsel to clients on a variety of trust and estate matters. An advanced degree such as an L.L.M. and/or professional certification is preferred. The right professional to join us will be resourceful, exercise good judgment, and possess effective interpersonal and communication skills. Most importantly, we look for and value team members who have the desire and ability to exceed clients’ expectations.
Position Responsibilities
- Draft estate planning documents including but not limited to wills, trust agreements, powers of attorney, advance medical directives, deeds, etc.
- Supervise preparation of probate filings such as petitions for probate, inventories, accounts, inheritance tax returns, and petitions for assorted relief.
- Administer trusts and estates, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and the wishes of the decedent. Trust administration duties including supervise the preparation of accountings, prepare Crummey Notices, prepare and file Federal and State estate tax returns, review trust income tax returns.
- Correspond with clients, financial institutions, insurance companies, Register of Wills Offices, and government agencies.
- Advise clients on estate planning, including the preparation of wills, trusts, and other estate planning documents.
- Provide counsel on tax planning and implications related to estates and trusts.
- Assist clients with wealth transfer strategies and charitable giving plans.
- Draft and review legal documents related to estate planning and administration.
- Collaborate with financial advisors, accountants, and other professionals to develop comprehensive estate plans.
- Stay current with changes in estate and tax laws to provide up-to-date advice to clients.
Requirements for the Position
- Juris Doctor degree from ABA-accredited law school with a strong academic performance.
- A current active member of the Maryland Bar (in good standing). Membership in Virginia, and/or D.C. Bar a plus.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.
- Driven self-starter with excellent analytical and writing skills who is willing and able to handle multiple matters.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Possesses excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as a part of a team.
- Some flexibility with scheduling to meet deadlines is desired.
- Willingness to learn new skills, systems, processes, and software applications.

Salary: $150,000 – $200,000 depending on experience. Annual bonuses (variable depending on Firm and attorney performance). Remote work is encouraged firmwide.
