As a fifth generation Washingtonian, Brian Kotzker knows a thing or two about regional business and real estate, from both a historical as well as a pragmatic perspective. His early professional years as a CPA, combined with his considerable “street sense” and a calm demeanor even under pressure, make him a trusted and valued legal advisor to clients involved in any kind of commercial transaction.
The scope of Brian’s practice includes business law, commercial real estate transactions, leasing and landlord-tenant issues and commercial lending. He has achieved a track record of success helping small businesses get up and running, leading them through the complexities of opening a retail store, service business or restaurant, and when necessary, guiding them through the sale, merger or dissolution process. He also represents clients with respect to their relationships with shareholders, franchisors, employees, contractors, vendors and government agencies, including planning commissions and liquor licensing entities.
Having served for several years as Hearing Board Chairman of the Montgomery County Housing Opportunities Commission, Brian provided a public service by conducting formal hearings and ruling and writing opinions on various landlord-tenant disputes and other reported violations of housing program regulations. He also was a presenter in a variety of seminars for both the Judicial Institute of Maryland and Junior Achievement.
A graduate of the University of Maryland—where he received an Accounting degree and was a member of the Beta Alpha Psi Honorary Accounting Society—Brian earned his J.D. from the University Of Baltimore School Of Law. He is admitted to practice in both Maryland and the District of Columbia.
