Amanda Gilbert represents clients in all aspects of family law, including separation, divorce, child custody, adoption, and assisted reproductive technology. She combines her legal knowledge and experience with a solution-oriented approach to address complex family matters. Known for her empathy, patience, calm demeanor, and common-sense perspective, Amanda provides both strategic guidance and compassionate support during challenging family transitions.

A trained mediator and Collaborative practitioner, Amanda strongly believes that many family matters can and should be resolved outside the courtroom. In addition to serving as a private mediator, she is a Court-appointed ADR Facilitator in domestic relations cases before the D.C. Superior Court. She is also an active proponent of the Collaborative Process, having served as president of the D.C. Academy of Collaborative Professionals (DCACP) and continuing to serve on the boards of DCACP and Collaborative Dispute Resolution Professionals (CDRP).

While she encourages mediation, the Collaborative Process, and negotiated settlements whenever possible, Amanda advocates vigorously on behalf of her clients in court when litigation becomes unavoidable.

Amanda has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America in the areas of Family Law, Family Law Mediation, and Collaborative Law: Family Law.  In 2024, Amanda was also named to The Daily Record‘s Family Law Power List.

Amanda is licensed to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia. She earned her J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School and her B.A., with honors, in Psychology from Washington University in St. Louis.
